Research abstract

Not Available In the domain of weapon/fire control systems, embedded software will be a key cost driver in the next generation. Furthermore, the omnipresence of embedded systems in today's market (from home appliances to spacecraft) and the quality requirements these systems are expected to meet, put a great emphasis on the techniques that are deployed to develop these systems. It has been recognized that development of standardized product line architecture with supporting infrastructure technology, tools, and design methodology can be an enabler to control embedded software cost and complexity. This effort proposes the development of standardized infrastructure technology, tools, and design methodology to effectively manage and control the cost and complexity of software used in embedded combat vehicle and indirect fire weapon applications. We will assess the feasibility of an integrated tool environment for end-to-end support of architecture-centric software development process based on the experiential knowledge accumulated over half a dozen product line engineering efforts. BENEFITS: This effort will provide the basis for standardized development of embedded applications (DoD and Commercial) using reusable assets resulting in tremendous cost savings in software development, testing, deployment, and maintenance/support activities.
