Research abstract
We propose to integrate key enabling technologies, developed by LSA, with commercial products introduced by the rapidly changing mobile computer and telecommunication industries, to develop an advanced user-system interface for IO and C2 environments.Current industry development indicates that the commercial offerings will fall short of what will be necessary in future IO and C2 applications. To fill the present and future void in high-speed mobile connectivity and user location, we propose to developa multi-technology mobile computing platform that allows untethered network access at high data transfer rates. The results of the Phase II effort will be a pair of mobile computing interfaces that can communicate at speeds up to 100 Mbps and that wouldbe able to be integrated into future IO and C2 environments, thus permitting worldwide, real-time, distributed collaborative information exchange in support of operational decision making. As described in the rest of this proposal, LSA has thedemonstrated performance, technological foundation, and commercialization capabilities to successfully develop advanced user system interfaces for the IO and C2 environment.
