Research abstract

Page Automated Telecommunications Systems, Inc., has developed a new Technology, Smart Skin Array Technology, based on fiberoptics. They have developed optical Backplane prototypes using glass fiberoptic channels. This Technology is extremely flexible and is capable of generating highly dense fiberoptic channels in a flexible material allowing for vertical transmission with no losses due to scattering. This Technique has been patented. The issue of providing low cost motherboards with plastic fiberoptics requires a study in materials and integratable parts to meet the MIL SPECS for passive motherboards. We intend to address these issues utilizing our optical fabric as a point of departure. The fabric will utilize plastic optical fibers. The effects of our technique on plastic fibers will be studied as well as appropriate embedding material for this optical fiber.
