Research abstract

This project creates a wireless solution for interconnecting hearing aids with consumerelectronic devices based on a new, ultra-low-power radio specifically developed by project partnerIntriCon Corporation (St. Paul, MN), for use in micro-behind-the-ear (Micro-BTE) hearing aids. Thesmall consumer electronics add-on module, with greater than 100-hour battery life from a standardzinc-air hearing aid battery, can directly communicate with micro-BTE hearing aids. It allows for theuse of wireless technology and provides a connectivity solution that has many advantages over othercurrent solutions. The result is a module (audio digitizer and transmitter module) compatible withnearly all future wireless hearing aids. This new module allows hearing aid users to receive highqualitysound data directly from such items as cell phones, televisions, computers, digital audio players, and classroom public announcement systems.
