Research abstract

Small UAS and other military tactical unmanned aerial vehicles require substantial electrical power for both onboard systems as well as motive/propulsion power in hybrid applications.Ý However, battery systems simply do not have the energy density of gas turbine engine driven fueled power generation systems.Ý Hence, Candent Technologies is proposing to use its extensive turbomachinery experience and technology, as well as its highly effective, advanced heat exchanger design capability, in order to provide a fully compliant, highly reliable, lightweight, small, efficient, high power density microturbine based turbogenerator electrical power system, which is comprised of a small, recuperated cycle, single shaft (micro) gas turbine engine with very fast dynamic response time, directly driving a high speed permanent magnet alternator, the output of which will be rectified to produce the desired DC output.Ý
