Research abstract
CoreTek, Inc. proposes a novel integrated tunable diode laser for Military and Commercial applications. In our proposed approach broad tuning (50-1OOnm) is achieved via on-chip integration of a novel electro-optic thin film waveguide with semiconductor laser diodes. The high electro-optical properties of the proposed thin films allows simultaneous broad tuning and extremely narrow linewidth (5Onm), tuning speed faster than 1 nm/ns and laser emission with <300 MHz linewidth are expected. Phase II will be devoted to the development of devices in terms of reliability, low cost fabrication and initial commercialization efforts with emphasis on 1300nm and 1550nm wavelengths. Widely tunable lasers with a narrow linewidth will be a key component in a wide range of dual use applications that include telecommunications applications, secure communication systems - remote optical sensing, environmental monitoring, lidar, optical readout actuators and so on.
