Research abstract

THIS PROJECT IS TO DEVELOP A NONRADIOACTIVE METHOD FOR LABELING GENETIC MATERIALS. A LIGHT-EMITTING CHEMICAL REACTION (CHEMILUMINESCENCE) WILL BE EMPLOYED AS A LABEL. CHEMILUMINESCENCE, OWING TO ITS HIGH SENSITIVITY, SIMPLICITY, AND SAFETY, PROVIDES AN ALTERNATIVE TO RADIOISOTOPES. THIS NEW LABELING TECHNIQUE IS EXPECTED TO FIND USE IN MEDICAL CHEMISTRY AND BIOTECHNOLOGY RESEARCH LABORATORIES AND IN TEACHING SETTINGS AT UNIVERSITIES AND HIGH SCHOOLS. IN ADDITION, DEVELOPMENT WORK WILL BEGIN FOR IMAGING, RECORDING, PROCESSING, AND STORAGE OF EXPERIMENTAL GENETIC DATA OBTAINED WITH CHEMILUMINESCENT LABELS.
