Research abstract

PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR: Booske, Bridget AWARDEE ORGANIZATION: Health Insights Research Group, Inc. 2035 University Ave. Madison, WI 53705 TELEPHONE NUMBER: (608) 263-4875 AWARDEE NUMBER: 282-93-0049 The long term objective is to develop an integrated patient information system allowing the collection, processing, analysis, and customized reporting of clinical and administrative information to support health services providers, researchers, administrators, employers, and payors in analyzing such data and making decisions. Phase I, through collaboration with practicing clinicians and administrators, using multiattribute utility and expert panel methodologies, will (1) determine technical and commercial feasibility, (2) define the content of a minimal data set for demographic, clinical and administrative information common to all episodes of care, (3) define the content of a minimal data set for two selected specialties of care, (4) create the design specifications for the general and two specialty-specific modules, and (5) develop a standard methodology for any other specialty. Upon completion of Phase I, the team will in Phase II (1) develop a working system for the modules defined in Phase I, (2) implement the system in a practice setting for alpha testing, and (3) refine the methodology. The resulting system will have commercial applications for providers, consumers and payors. The products will consist of both databases and algorithms/decision support systems developed on top of them.
