Research abstract

Scientific Research Corporation (SRC) proposes to develop an expendable, low cost data link from a camera mounted in a gun launched projectile to a Naval surface ship for use in targeting, identification and battle damage assessment. The Expendable Video Data Link will consist of an RF Layer, Channel Encoding layer and Video Compression Layer. Link budget analysis methods will be employed to evaluate various RF band, modulation, antenna and channel enoodingalternatives. Video compression methods, based on the Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) and Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT), will be examined to find an@@ an appropriate real time, image compression scheme that will minimize bandwidth while providing for useful features such as variable resolution and frame rate.
