Research abstract

We will examine the feasibility of using biodegradable, indictable gels as drug delivery vehicle foepileptic drug, clonazepam for the control of epileptic seizures, particularly in young children anda controlled release biodegradable, indictable gel formulation for clonazepam that can be injected sformulations will be prepared with biodegradable copolymers of lactic and glycolic acid, and a plastmolecular weight of the polymers and four different drug loadings will be employed to formulate drugformulations of varying compositions. Factors affecting in vitro drug release rates from the gel-forevaluated. An optimized gel formulation will be selected for an in vivo experiment. The selected gelto provide constant therapeutic concentrations of the drug for a prolonged period of time. The therasuch novel technology would be of tremendous benefit to epileptic patients, particularly infants andincapable of taking medications orally or are resisting the mode of treatment . Besides clinical bendescribed in the proposal has tremendous commercial potential.
