Research abstract

Triton proposes to develop transparent optical windows with nanostructured ultra-hydrophobic surfaces for enhanced broadband optical transmission and anti-biofouling characteristics. Specifically, Triton and our partner will develop and produce highly transparent broadband optical glasses by investigating and optimizing glass manufacturing procedures. Triton will also design and fabricate durable nanostructured coatings on optical glass surfaces for producing transparent optical windows with exceptional broadband transmittance, increased hydrophobicity and superior anti-biofouling properties by employing a scalable and low-cost nano-imprinting process. We will also design and construct transparent optical windows for ease-of adaption and integration into exiting Navy platforms.
