Research abstract

The Principal Investigator has shown that it is feasible to fly a magnetic anomaly detection (MAD) system on a unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in tests already conducted. The present effort is directed to the near real-time transmission of a MAD sensor suite package from a UAV to a ground control station where the advanced signal processing will process and analyze the data, resulting in a near real-time graphical display identifying possible target locations. The Investigator will explore a number of approaches to install a selected commercial of the shelf low cost MAD onto a UAV, define system and software architecture and signal processing techniques and perform technology trades and requirements analysis.
