Research abstract
Ground troops have the need for a personnel armor that will provide them protection from multiple battlefield threats such as fragmentation nd small-arms rifle fire up to .30 cal. Simula will develop an armor system from two new materials which were recently tested and yielded promising results. A new fiber and fabric was tested agains a standard fragment threat and a new ceramic was tested agains at advanced 7.62-mm armor-piercing (AP) threat. Both materials had excellent performance when compared to currently fielded armor materials. These materials have the potential of providing a significant weight reduction compared to current state-of-the-art fragmentation and small arms protective system.
