Research abstract

A TOXIC GAS DETECTOR IS DESCRIBED THAT DEPENDS UPON OPTICAL TECHNIQUES FOR ALL GASES MONITORED. SPECTROSCOPIC PROPERTIES OF THE GASES IN THE INFRARED REGION ARE USED TO SPECIFY EACH OF FIVE GASES TO BE DETECTED, AND THESE GASES ARE MEASURED IN A SINGLE MULTIREFLECTIVE MEASUREMENT PHOTOMETER. GASES ARE DISTINGUISHED BY SPECTRAL CORRELATION TECHNIQUES, INVOLVING THE INTERACTIVE USE OF A SELF-CONTAINED MICROPROCESSOR. THE UNIT IS INTENDED TO BE SMALL IN SIZE AND PORTABLE. GASES WOULD BE SAMPLED BY A PUMP, AND THE UNIT IS INTENDED TO BE USED IN AIRCRAFT COCKPITS.
