Research abstract

DoD spends billions of dollars each year on specialized trainers. We propose to exploit recent developments in multimedia communications, the Internet, agent technology, distributed simulations, domain independent knowledge representations and intelligent tutoring systems to reduce the cost of provide authoring tools for building training systems. We propose to employ standard languages, start-of-the-art software engineering techniques, and to exploit the "information Superhighway's" World Wide Web (WWW) to (1) reuse existing distributed resources, (2) employ existing knowledge stores and (3) utilize the interfaces of existing tools for those of our student diagnostic and modeling systems.
