Research abstract

Topical formulations will be developed to provide skin protection against organophosphorus and vesicant agents of military interst. Formulations will consist of a reactive species and a compatible protective barrier polymer. Candidate reactive species will be tested against radiolabeled diisopropyl fluorophosphate (DFP) and n-butyl 2-chloroethyl sulfide (NBCS) to establish their ability to decompose these analogs. Promising reactive species will be formulated with selected urethane copolymers as barrier materials. The reactive-barrier polymer formulations will be tested against the analogs. For promising formulations, stability tests will be done to determine if the formulations retain their initial characteristics.
