Research abstract

A SHF stacked adaptive phased array capble of electronically pointing beams at multiple signals of itneriest (SOI) without mechancial components is sought primarily for mobile applications. Recently, a new classs of blide adaptation algorithms has been developed that has teh capability to automatically electronically steering beams in the directions of the SOIs without knowledge of the SOI angel-of-arrival, the near field multipath environment nor the array calibration data. A suite of alorithms are available for copying a variety of SOI modulation formations, including: Direct Sequence Spread spectrum (DSSS), Frequency Hop, burst or transient signals, and constant modulus signals. directive antenna arrays can be used to both increase the sensitivity (detection/acquisition capability) and link margin of thse systems, by allowing the receiver to extract the received signal even in the presence of strong interference, and by allowing the transmitter to maximize the received signal energy in the direction of the SOI. As an additional benefit, these processing techniques simultaneously steer nulls in the directions of multiple interference signals. This allows communications in the presence of stront co-channel inteference (jamming).
