Research abstract

The space environment is increasing in complexity faster than current space domain awareness and space battle management systems can keep up, leaving operators with an incomplete, and often delayed picture of the domain. This presents risk to maintaining space superiority for both civil and commercial outcomes. Software approaches that make sense of the complexity and deliver timely decision aids automatically are required to avoid operational surprise. Katalyst’s Automated RSO Characterization (ARC) software is a framework for interrogating space objects for evidence of camouflage, concealment, deception, and maneuver (CCDM) using existing observation data. It uses multiple independent tests to identify CCDM through a modular application architecture and joins indicators for comparison against hypotheses of CCDM to automatically produce CCDM flags. Katalyst proposes to enhance the automated CCDM framework methods and performance so it can be operationalized.
