Research abstract

OPTRA PROPOSES A NON-CONTACT TECHNIQUE FOR THE MEASUREMENT OF THERMAL EXPANSION. THE TECHNIQUE IS OPTICAL AND IS BASED ON THE USE OF A 2-FREQUENCY HENE LASER. NO SPECIAL PREPARATION OF THE TEST PART IS REQUIRED, AND THE MEASUREMENT CAN BE MADE THROUGH THE WINDOW OF A VACUUM CHAMBER. THE THEORETICAL BASIS FOR THE MEASUREMENT IS FULLY DESCRIBED, AND PRELIMINARY EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS--DEMONSTRATING THE FEASIBILITY OF ACCURATE NON-CONTACT MEASUREMENTS OF LATERAL DISPLACEMENT, USING MACHINED AND GROUND SURFACES--ARE CITED.
