Research abstract

Not Available History and social studies learning outcomes for students in grades K-12 are below standard. The NAEP, a national exam for students in fourth, eighth, and twelfth grades, shows that students score the lowest in history (under 30%). Yet a dear understanding of history is vital for our students to become effective citizens. Tutoring helps individual students raise their academic results. However, competent tutors are expensive and often unavailable. They are also bound by time and space. Yet "virtual reality" transcends normal boundaries. This innovative project proposes to study the feasibility of distance from students through virtual worlds to positively impact learning outcomes in history.
