Processing of Poultry Manure for Fuel Gas Production

Agricultural activities produce large quantities of animal wastes in the form of manures. Currently, the accumulation of manures from animal husbandry operations is a serious threat to water supplies and challenges the capacity of existing landfills. However, this potential problem also represents an opportunity for remote biomass power production systems based on heating the manure in the absence of air to produce combustible gases. Poultry manure is a good candidate since it is available in large quantities. The technology for converting poutry manure into combustible gases can be integrated with various electrical power generation devices and have widespread agricultural use for poultry manure removal, resource recovery, and power generation. Export opportunities will exist for underdeveloped countries with limited central power production capabilities. The technology will also have potential applications to related solid waste resource recovery problems in remote areas such as oil production platforms, submarines, ships, military operations, humanitarian relief operations, etc.
