Research abstract
We will develop a therapeutic treatment for human brain cancers focusing on malignant gliomas. Surgtreatment for intracerebral malignant gliomas has yielded very unsatisfactory results . The locationimportant brain areas and the sometime diffuse growth pattern of invasive gliomal neoplasms limit opOur Phase I efforts will center on determining the feasibility and effectiveness of human chorionicmonoclonal antibodies (MAbs) as a potential therapeutic treatment for brain cancer. We expect to accusing a rat brain cancer model established by stereotactic, intracerebral injection of cultured C-6have already shown the in vitro and in vivo expression of membrane-associated hCG, its subunits andand rat neurological tumor cells. Moreover, our preliminary data suggests that treatment of our modehCG may be effective. The effectiveness of hCG MAbs will be determined using intratumoral and intracadministrations. Phase II studies will include comparisons of the effects of daily intracarotid boluof monoclonal antibodies against hCG with and without osmotic disruption of the blood brain barrier.up this work with clinical trials.
