Research abstract

Extracting knowledge from the vast amount of rapidly-evolving data handled by image processing programs, situation assessment and decision support systems, and many other applications important to the BMDO mission is a demanding task requiring powerful computer hardware and appropriate software architectures. This project addresses the software required for intelligent, real-time knowledge processing using members of this broad class of distributed-memory parallel processing machine. Specifically, we propose to develop novel software embodying both a hierarchical data fusion framework and an underlying real-time parallel language. Such unified software should be uniquely capable of supporting the sort of real-time analysis of rapidly evolving data streams that is intrinsic in the applications of interest to BMDO.
