Research abstract

The Math Messenger is a tool for communicating mathematics in an Internet dialog. It combines typesetting, graphing, computer algebra and instant messaging technologies to enable collaborative authoring and online tutoring interactively. In its simplest form, the Math Messenger is a tool with rich user interface for teaching high school mathematics over the Internet. In a more complex form, it can be used by professionals as a digital whiteboard to author technical publications and solve advanced mathematical problems together over the Internet. The Math Messenger can be extended to display chemical structures graphically and flowcharts of computer programs, and perform other graphical and typographical functions.
