Research abstract
In the 1990's, there are great costs to society, families, and youth from morbidity and mortality rfrom adolescent conflicts. Behavioral research has identified a number of promising approaches to busocial problem-solving skills. However, additional research is needed to create innovative preventiopromote their pro-social conflict resolution skills and to widely disseminate them in ways that woulconsumers. Phase I is to develop and test the efficacy of a theory-based, social skills and conflictintervention which uses interactive compact disc (CD-i) technology. Formative research will involvebehavioral science with interactive game technologies in order to create a multi- level game concepti program disc using three types of conflict scenarios: teen-teen, teen-adult, and teen-parent; andgroups with adolescents to provide qualitative data to refine several types of skill training scenarCD-i game program. Experiments (hands-on vs. vicarious learning) will then be performed (with adolesrandomly assigned) to compare the CD-i game vs. the alternative preventive interventions. Outcome anwill be examined for the efficacy and feasibility of the CD-i approach.
