Research abstract

This project expands upon current digital talking book technology and creates and deliversan Illustrated Digital Talking Book (IDTB), which improves upon current technology by providingaccessible graphs, maps, diagrams, or other images. These books give readers control of audio-basedcontent playback and permit examination of raised-line and textured imagines in a traditional bookformat. Readers touch the tip of a special electronic ¿pen¿ to parts of illustrations when looking atitems such as diagrams, maps, tables, and graphs and then listen to an audio description of those items. No computer or other hardware devices are needed, making the system portable and inexpensive.
