Research abstract

"In order to develop a cost-effective Foliage Penetration Interferometric SyntheticAperture Radar (FOPEN IFSAR) system for terrain map navigation and ATR UAVapplications using dual-frequency digital cellular-phone transceiver COTS components, this project requires a thorough background in the state-of-the-art approaches tothe FOPEN SAR process and a deep understanding of FOPEN IFSAR operations includingtransmission range, processing speed, power consumption and imagery resolution. Ofspecial note, a highly efficient one-path-fly, bi-static IFSAR algorithm withStokes polarization vector information is very significant in providing RFsignatures and terrain height for location IDs (knowing terrain contour map infostored in the flight data basis). The design of the efficient FOPEN IFSAR algorithmincludes integration with a pipelined digital FOPEN SAR processor, a FOPEN SARarray architecture, and development of a digital beam former. Trident willleverage our extensive development experience with FOPEN SAR digital processors, aswell as in systems integration and design, to develop an innovative, yet practical,FOPEN IFSAR system solution. Our approach will provide system and component designof digital FOPEN IFSAR at UHF & VHF dual frequencies in order to meet therequirements of a low-cost device capable of UAV targeting and navigation. The successful completion of this project will have a number of potentialcommercial applications. Law e
