Research abstract

As a result of electric power generation, tons of metal containing coal ash is land filled or contained in liquid impoundments in the US daily. Depending on the coal type, these residuals contain different types and amounts of heavy metals. Coal-fired power has left a legacy where coal ash has not been chemically stabilized, and has demonstrated the potential to liberate heavy metals and pollute ground water and environment at large.
