Research abstract

Laser Power Corporation (LPC) has developed red, green, and blue solid state microlasers that provide the key for creating Helmet Mounted Displays with large color gamuts, resolutions of 12 million pixels/eye, and brightness levels of up to 10,000 ft-L. LPC has identified an HMD configuration which takes advantage of the characteristics of the laser to provide near 20/20 visual acuity over a large field of view, which ensures high fidelity pilot training. LPC has also developed a novel, high bandwidth, wireless communications concept which overcomes the challenges placed on the system by thei high resolution requirements. LPC is proposing the development of a full color HMD design based upon the microlaser and other technologies we have developed. These technologies will form the basis for state-of-the-art HMD's for both simulation and tactical applications.
