Research abstract

We have devised a new type of "intelligent" optical fiber receiver able to tolerate inevitably time-varying wavelength shifted data. This robust optical fiber receiver will make WDM high-performance data transfer systems and even systems designed to operate in harsh environments very economical. The proposed receiver, which is also manufacturable and robust, is a suitable component for both packet- and circuit- switched architectures. The phase I approach includes a definition of requirements, feasibility evaluations, tradeoffs, architectures and technology.
