Research abstract
properties: Intramolecular and intermolecular charge transfers in phthalocyanine molecules can be used as signal generators for information processing and storage; phthalocyanine molecules show an excellent molecular stability resistant to environmental changes and harsh conditions, high thermal stability up to 280¿ C in normal environment and up to 700-800¿ C in vacuum, resistive to B and most probably Y radiation; ease in technical manipulation and application in construction of addressable and inexpensive Molecular Electronic Devices. These devices are based on quantum and tunneling effects operate at room temperatures for applications in real time high speed information processing systems and are constructed without difficulties of submicron fabrication technologies. US Patent 4,804,930 has been issued to the Principal Investigator. Molecular devices will greatly improve switching and memory properties of processing elements. These improved devices will make use in electro-optically driven computers and communication systems with enhanced flexibility, performance and architecture. Opportunities in diverse markets are anticipated.
