Research abstract

COLOR HAS BECOME THE STANDARD FORMAT FOR HUMAN COMMUNICATION WITH COMPUTER SYSTEMS AND INFORMATION PROCESSING THROUGHOUT BUSINESS AND INDUSTRY. THE CURRENT TREND AWAY FROM BLACK AND WHITE TO COLOR PRINTING IS A NATURAL CONSEQUENCE OF THIS DEVELOPMENT. WITH THE INCREASING POPULARITY AND AVAILABILITY OF COLOR APPLICATIONS WHICH ENHANCE PRODUCTIVITY IN THE HOME, BUSINESS, AND COMMERCIAL ENVIRONMENT, THE DEMAND FOR COLOR PRINTING AND COPYING IS GROWING EXPONENTIALLY. THERE IS, HOWEVER, A SIGNIFICANT VOID IN THE PRICE/PERFORMANCE CAPABILITIES OF CURRENTLY AVAILABLE PRODUCTS. IN ADDITION, THERE IS A GROWING TENDENCY ON THE PART OF MANUFACTURERS TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF DISPOSABLE COMPONENTS WHICH REDUCE THE INITIAL COST OF PURCHASE AT THE EXPENSE OF THE ENVIRONMENT AND THE END USER. RESEARCHERS ARE DEVELOPING A TECHNOLOGY WHICH IS ENVIRONMENTALLY SOUND AND WHICH FILLS THE PRICE/PERFORMANCE VOID OVER A BROAD RANGE OF APPLICATIONS. THIS NEW TECHNOLOGY TAKES ADVANTAGE OF DEVELOPMENTS IN RELATED FIELDS TO MAINTAIN THE LOW-COST AND RELIABILITY OF TRADITIONALLY SLOW INK JET PRINTING SYSTEMS WHILE AT THE SAME TIME RETAINING THE HIGH PERFORMANCE OF MORE COSTLY COLOR LASER PRINTERS. SINGLE CHANNEL FEASIBILITY HAS BEEN DEMONSTRATED AND PROVEN. THE KEY FOR DEMONSTRATING PRODUCT FEASIBILITY IS TO EXTEND THIS WORK TO MANUFACTURABLE MULTI-CHANNEL PRINT HEAD ARRAYS.
