Research abstract

Beacon Industries Inc. proposes developing the Multi-Axis Precision Force Balance System (MPFBS), an advanced internal force measurement system designed to enhance wind tunnel testing capabilities for high-speed aerodynamic research. This innovative system aims to significantly improve the precision of force and moment measurements under extreme aerodynamic conditions, supporting the evaluation of next-generation aerial systems and propulsion technologies. The MPFBS will utilize state-of-the-art materials such as Nickel-based superalloys (Inconel 718, Haynes 230) and Titanium Metal Matrix Composites (Ti-MMCs) with SiC reinforcement. These materials are chosen for their exceptional high-temperature performance, fatigue resistance, and strength-to-weight ratios, enabling the MPFBS to withstand the rigorous demands of dynamic testing environments.Key to the system's innovation is the integration of advanced sensor technologies, including Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) sensors and semiconductor strain gauges, which offer high-resolution strain measurements while being immune to electromagnetic interference. The system's data acquisition will be managed through a high-speed, 24-bit resolution DAQ system capable of handling over 10 kHz sampling rates, ensuring minimal signal noise and maximum measurement accuracy.Innovative cooling strategies involving Phase Change Materials (PCMs) and microfluidic channels will maintain thermal stability and ensure consistent performance across various operational temperatures. This integration of advanced materials, cutting-edge sensors, and thermal management technologies positions the MPFBS as a critical tool in developing and validating aerodynamic models, enhancing the precision and reliability of wind tunnel testing.
