Research abstract

The objective of this project is to study the feasibility of a number of novel methods and concepts for conformable power sources that can be integrated into the structure of the projectile with minimal or no loss of the intended functionality of thestructure. The structurally integrated power sources are load bearing. As the result, all or a significant portion of the space required to house the power source and the aforementioned components can be saved. In addition, the power sources and theirrelated components are better protected against high acceleration loads, vibration, impact loading, repeated loading and acceleration and deceleration cycles that can be experienced during transportation and loading operations, i.e., are highly survivable.Such power sources are also safer, have longer shelf life, and are more reliable. The conformal and structurally integrated power sources have numerous other military and commercial applications. Such power sources are ideal for use in different types ofmissiles and rockets, in satellites and in all different types of commercial disposable electronic devices such as flash lights, cameras, and the like.
