Research abstract

"Bihrle Applied Research (BAR) proposes to develop a single, easy-to-use, Windows based software application capable of supporting flying qualities and performance analysis and simulation tasks from the conceptual design phase through to the flight testingphase. This software will integrate non-linear aerodynamic prediction capability, propulsion system modeling tools, and control power allocation and inversion tools together with a non-linear six-degree-of-freedom simulation environment. This softwaresuite will enable engineers to use even a simple sketch of a configuration to obtain a flight model and flight control system to perform classic stability and control analysis and automated flight tests of a conceptual flight vehicle. The use of such anintegrated tool will foster a more holistic approach to advanced vehicle design that will in turn lower the initial investment into candidate concepts and facilitate more efficient engineering processes throughout development."
