Research abstract

PRIOR WORK HAS SHOWN THE TANNINS EXTRACTED FROM SOUTHERN PINE BARK TO HAVE EXCELLENT POTENTIAL TO SERVE AS A SUB STITUTE FOR PHENOL-RESORCINOL-FORMALDEHYDE IN WOOD LAMINAT ING ADHESIVES. THIS STUDY EXTENDS THE APPLICATION OF TANNIN -SULFONATE-BASED ADHESIVES TO THEIR USE IN END-JOINTING ADHESIVES FOR WOOD. ADHESIVE FORMULATIONS IN WHICH AT LEAST 50 PERCENT OF THE RESIN SOLIDS ARE MADE UP OF TANNIN-SUL FONATES WILL BE DEVELOPED TO ACHIEVE PRACTICAL INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS FOR TANNIN-BASED WOOD ADHESIVES.
