Research abstract

RECENT INVESTIGATIONS OF ELECTROMEMBRANES THAT WERE PREPAREDTO PROVIDE AN ELECTRIC POTENTIAL BARRIER FOR CONTROLLING PERMEATION OF CHARGED SPECIES HAVE INDICATED FAILURE OF THE MEMBRANES. THIS FAILURE IS ATTRIBUTED TO THE UNSTABLE NATURE OF THE MATERIALS USED IN THEIR FABRICATION. THE SYNTHESIS OF STABLE CONDUCTING POLYMERS BY ION IMPLANTATION PROCESSES HAS BEEN DEMONSTRATED SUCCESSFULLY. THE FEASIBILITY OF USING THE ION IMPLANTATION TECHNIQUE TO PREPARE ELECTROMEMBRANES WILL BE INVESTIGATED IN THIS PROJECT. RESEARCH IS ALSO PLANNED TO EVALUATE THE SEPARATION EFFICIENCY OF THESE NEWLY FABRICATED ELECTROMEMBRANES.
