Research abstract

We will develop an innovative technique of applying an adhesive-backed membrane directly tothe lid of and check below the dominant eye that facilitates regeneration and homing of optic nervefibers in the non-dominant eye of young children with amblyopia strabismus. We have developed a classof novel medical adhesives that exhibit a dramatic reduction in peel strength upon warming above somedesignated switch temperature. This feature permits the direct application to the stratum corneum (andhair) surrounding the eye. This switch temperature will be tailored to occur within the narrowtemperature limit between external body temperature and safely below the tissue damage temperaturethereby reducing the physical and mental trauma associated with medical adhesive removal andimproving patient compliance with the treatment methodology.
