Research abstract
The thrust of the proposed research is to develop a comprehensive and cost effective automated test insertion tool for boards and systems designed using Commercial Off-The Shelf (COTS) devices. The research will investigate promising test methodologies for testing non BIST devices in the board and design a tool that can analyze and propose design changes to enhance testability in a commercial board design framework. This will make it possible for the COTS to be used extensively in military system designs without compromising the testability of the system. Phase I research will focus on procedures for board test architecture evalautions, test pattern generation in self test framework, test response compactions, test session scheduling schemes and formulation of metrics to evaluate various overheads that result from testability enhancement changes. During this phase, we also plan to initiate the design of a prototype tool. This prototype tool will be tested on benchmark designs and industrial examples that will be made available to use from Mentor Graphics and AT&T. If the objectives are satisfied, we propose to implement the techniques selected through the Phase I research and develop an efficient test insertion tool for possible commercialization.
