Research abstract

ROS are believed to cause tissue damage in numerous pathological conditions including chronic autoidisease. We have developed a class of low molecular weight catalytic ROS scavengers with a lead molehighly effective in several experimental models for disease. This project will investigate the efficautoimmune disease, focusing on systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), a chronic disorder with frequentwomen and with pathologies involving multiple organ systems. Current treatments for SLE include cortantimalarials, and antimitotics, many of which have severe side effects that limit their chronic usewhether there is sufficient evidence to support the clinical development of EUK-8 for treating patieinvestigate the effects of chronic EUK-8 treatment on kidney disease and other parameters in MRL/lprspontaneous autoimmune disease similar to human SLE; 2) develop preliminary analytical methods to isits plasma metabolites; and 3) determine if EUK-8 metabolites are catalytically active against ROS.
