Research abstract

This proposal outlines an approach to increase the efficacy of drugs delivered to lung tissue by ininto either the aqueous or lipophilic phase of water in perfuorochemical emulsion used in liquid breof this approach is that it would enable the desired drug to be reproducibly delivered to all alveolaerosol techniques fail to provide uniform delivery of active agent to distant, small alveoli. NeatLiquivent) are not useful in this regard because they fail to solubilize drugs. Drug delivery appliapproach is expected to provide immediate benefits include: DNase and modified adenovirus for CystiChemotherapeutics such as 5-fluorouracil and doxorubicin for lung cancer; surfactants (Survanta, ExoRespiratory Distress Syndrome (IRDS); treatment of meconium staining in neonates.. Phase I of this aan experimental design varying the nature and concentration of perfluorocarbon and surfactant used tperfluorochemical microemulsions. These formulations will then be screened for toxicity in a rodentmodel to allow selection of the optimum delivery vehicle.
