Research abstract

Aspen Systems proposes to further advance the State-of-the-Art in Low Observable Aircraft Paints as well as Airport runway and Taxiway Paints with increased nighttime safety, longer marking life, extremely fast open to traffic formulated with engineering thermoplastic, UV-stable, polymer paint binders, and made possible by the use of an innovative, non-polluting, economical, easily fieldable, exposed flame free, operator and substrate safe, high velocity impact fusion (HVIF) thermal spray painting technology that supports the processing required for certain desirable polymer binders never before thought of as paint binders. The innovative new low cost application process uses a powder-paint feedstock formulation which when sprayed is highly adherent to metallic or composite aircraft exteriors or most concrete, bituminous, brick or stone surfaces of airfields, highways, bridges, tunnels, streets, or parking lots. This new process could make many solvent, waterborne and subsonic thermal spray coatings and processes obsolete in the near future. This coating process, when properly executed, does not discharge toxic or polluting volatile organic compound (VOC) solvents or gases (including NOx) into the atmosphere nor does the painting process develop any deletrious by-product waste which must be landfilled or incinerated that are typical of most conventional coatings. OPTION TASK: $20,000
