Research abstract

WE PROPOSE TO EVALUATE AND DESIGN A SHORT-PULSE, CW DIODE LASER-PUMPED Q-SWITCHED LASER DELIVERING PULSES 10%) - HIGH RELIABILITY OUR PROPOSED INNOVATION WILL DELIVER THE DESIRED SHORT PULSES; IT IS LASER DIODE-PUMPED FOR HIGH EFFICIENCY; AND ITS VERY COMPACT ALMOST MONOLITHIC DESIGN WILL INSURE HIGH RELIABILITY. BASED ON AN IMPROVED SOLID STATE AND DIODE PUMPED TECHNOLOGY, QUANTEL INTERNATIONAL PROPOSES TO MAKE A FEASIBILITY STUDY OF A SHORT PULSE ALL-SOLID-STATE LASER. PHASE 1 OF THE PROJECT WILL BE TO DEMONSTRATE A SHORT CAVITY OSCILLATOR (SINGLE LONGITUDINAL MODE, SINGLE TRANSVERSE MODE, Q-SWITCHED AT UP TO 1KHZ) WHICH WOULD DELIVER >10 MU J PER PULSE WITH A MINIMUM PULSE DURATION OF LESS THAN 1 NS, AND >1 MU J PER PULSE WITH A PULSE DURATION OF 100 PS AFTER COMPRESSION. A FLASHLAMP-PUMPED REGENERATIVE AMPLIFIER WILL BE USED TO TESTTHE AMPLIFICATION OF THESE PULSES. IN PHASE II, WE WILL BUILD THE COMPRESSOR AND DEVELOP AN ALL SOLID STATE QUASI-CWDIODE-PUMPED REGENERATIVE AMPLIFIER WHICH WILL AMPLIFY THE PULSES UP TO THE MJ LEVEL.
