Research abstract

THERE IS CURRENTLY NO CLEARINGHOUSE FOR ADULT LITERACY, AND NO PLACE FOR LITERACY PROVIDERS TO TURN FOR THE LATEST INFORMATION IN THEIR FIELD. AN ELECTRONIC INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION SYSTEM (EICS) WOULD BE A PLACE WHERE THE MOST RECENT INFORMATION ON LITERACY COULD BE COLLECTED AND DISSEMINATED. THE EICS SHOULD BE A PRACTITIONER-ORIENTED, USER-FRIENDLY SYSTEM THAT CAN EASILY BE USED BY PERSONS WITHOUT MUCH COMPUTER EXPERIENCE. LITERACY PROVIDERS FROM AROUND THE COUNTRY COULD UTILIZE THE EICS TO FIND OUT THE LATEST INFORMATION ON LITERACY AND TO REPORT ANY NEW INFORMATION THAT THEY HAVE RECEIVED. A VARIETY OF FORMS COULD BE PROVIDED FOR USE PARTICULARLY BY VOLUNTEERS. FORMSPROVIDED COULD INCLUDE STUDENT APPLICATION AND INTERVIEW FORMS, LESSON PLAN OUTLINES, SAMPLE ASSIGNMENT SHEETS, AND STUDENT ASSESSMENT REPORT FORMS. LITERACY PROVIDERS COULD ALSO USE THE EICS TO MAINTAIN COMMUNICATION WITH OTHER LITERACY PROVIDERS, BY SENDING AND RECEIVING MESSAGES TO/FROM EACH OTHER.
