Research abstract

TRANSGENIC MICE PROVIDE APPROPRIATE MODEL SYSTEMS TO STUDY THE GENESIS, MAINTENANCE, AND TRANSMISSION OF PARTICULAR TYPES OF NEOPLASMS. IN ADDITION, IMMORTALIZED SOMATIC CELLSCAN BE CULTURED FROM TRANSGENIC MICE IN WHICH SV-40 EARLY REGION DNA WAS INTRODUCED INTO EMBRYOS AND WAS TARGETED IN THE RESULTANT MICE WITH APPROPRIATE PROMOTERS. RESEARCHERS WILL USE THIS SYSTEM TO GENERATE MICE FROM WHICH IMMORTALIZED CELL LINES CAN BE ESTABLISHED AND STUDIED FOR OPTIMAL EXPRESSION OF THERAPEUTIC PROTEINS. IN PHASE I, INTEGRATED GENETICS WILL SET UP THE TRANSGENIC MOUSE SYSTEM USING MODEL VECTORS THAT HAVE BEEN SHOWN TO GIVE RISE TO TRANSGENIC ANIMALS AT HIGH FREQUENCIES. THE FOCUS OF THE CURRENT PROPOSAL IS TO SET UP THE MICROINJECTION TECHNOLOGY AND SUPPORT PROCEDURES TO MAINTAIN THE MICE AND ANALYZE DATA.
