Research abstract

A systematic and rigorous algorithm for numerical simulation of electromagnetic signatures of airbone platforms will be developed. The main goal of the proposed methodology is to significantly (by an order of magnitude) improve the performance of theexisting rigorous fast integral equation solvers for numerical simulation of realistic large scale (~10 million unknows) electromagnetic scattering and radiation problems based on the state-of-the art impedance matrix compression techniques (multilevelFMM and AIM). The performance improvement goal will be achieved through a cumulative application of four acceleration techniques presented in the technical section with each providing at least an improvement by a factor of 2. An essential feature of theproposed algorithms is that the performance improvement is to be achieved without compromising accuracy of the solution, and, with being able to reliably estimate the solution error. A successful completion of this project will result a new generalpurpose EM signature code for problems with arbitrary geometries and arbitrary material properties with the superior performance exceeding that of the existing techniques by an estimated factor of at least 10.
