Research abstract

Within the next few years major advances are anticipated in the collection of remote imagery from both commercial and military satellites. Specifically the availability of multi and hyper-spectral imagery will open up new information sources to thereconnaissance community. To effectively exploit these resources and properly support the warfighter it is imperative that image-processing tools matched to the new family of remote sensors, be developed. Phase II of this SBIR is aimed at providingthese tools. The AFRL Warfighter instrument exemplifies the class of sensors being addressed by this SBIR. We are hopeful that data will be available from Warfighter in the time frame of this work and will exploit it if possible. There are four task areas addresses in the phase II work. These are 1) single frame image restoration, 2) cloud removal, 3) multi and hyper-spectral resolution enhancement and 4) multi-image microscanning. The specific objective of Phase II is to developa suite of software modules to be applied to remotely sensed multi and hyper-spectral data. The software suite will provide the capability to reduce artifacts, improve spatial resolution, and enhance image quality. The result of the project will be anintegrated software system with commercial applications.
