Research abstract

Our goal is to design new high affinity cyclic galanin analogs that could serve as direct templatesmimetics. Galanin, a 29 amino acid peptide has been identified as a potential therapeutic target forAlzheimer's disease, obesity, stroke, chronic pain and growth disorders. A three step process is protechniques of computational chemistry characterize the low energy conformers of selected peptide dimcyclic galanin analogs and selection of a subset for synthesis and testing; 3) synthesis and determicyclized analogs for the CNS galanin receptor. The target diseases have very few satisfactory treatmenormous potential market for galanin agonist and antagonist peptidomimetics.
