Research abstract

TO SATISFY AIR FORCE REQUIREMENTS TO IMPROVE AVIATION REACTIVE ATMOSPHERES IN A UNIQUE, CONTRACTOR-OWNED ENTRAINED FLOW REACTOR WITH ON-LINE, IN-SITU ANALYSIS OF VOLATILE SPECIES, TEMPERATURE AND RADIATION ABSORPTION CHARACTERISTICS BY FOURTER TRANSFORM INFRARED (FT-IR) SPECTROSCOPY. THESE DATA WILL BE USED TO EVALUATE THE APPLICATION OF EXISTING CONTRACTOR-DEVELOPED MODELS OF VAPORIZATION, PYROLYSIS AND TRANSPORT TO MULTI-COMPONENT DROPLETS IN COMBUSTION. IN PHASE II, THE WORK WILL BE EXTENDED TO STUDY WELL CHARACTERIZED SPRAYS AT PRESSURES UP TO 10 ATMOSPHERES AND THE INDIVIDUAL MODELS WILL BE INTEGRATED INTO A COMPREHENSIVE FUEL COMBUSTION MODEL CAPABLE OF PROVIDING NEEDED INPUT TO LARGE SCALE COMPUTER CODES OF TWO PHASE REACTING FLOWS.
