Research abstract

Due to increasing environmental awareness, the demand for products which are environmentally responsible, biodegradable, and made from renewable resources is growing. Therefore, there is an increase in demand for lubricants made from vegetable oils and synthetic esters such as rapeseed and canola. These base oils, though biodegradable themselves, need special additives which are compatible, non-toxic and biodegradable. International Lubricants, Inc. (ILI) has developed extreme pressure and anti-wear additives as well as viscosity index improvers from seed oils. ILI proposes to develop new oid thickening additives, ashless detergent/dispersants, including non-metallic detergent/dispersants and other products. The principle application would be in industrial and automotive lubricants which would have improved biodegradability.
